Prenatal Yoga Training

Research suggests that prenatal yoga is safe and can have many benefits for pregnant women and their babies, including: improved sleep; reduced stress and anxiety; increased strength, flexibility and endurance of muscles used in childbirth; decrease lower back pain, nausea, carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms, headaches and shortness of breath; and increase in optimism and a sense of well-being!

It is incredibly fun and satisfying to teach yoga to pregnant women. Many women come to yoga for the first time during pregnancy, and this is a valuable opportunity to help them fall in love with the practice! As a prenatal yoga teacher, you will accompany women as they grow and change in pregnancy, and help them positively face their challenges and fears using the tools of yoga. You may also have a profound impact on their birth experience.   You will come away with:

*An understanding of the anatomy and changes in the pregnant body as it applies to yoga.

*The ability to design yoga classes, sequences and modifications for women in their first, second and third trimester, and after childbirth.

*The ability to help women prepare for the use of yoga in labor and delivery, including ways for birth partners to participate.

*Knowledge of safe parameters and contraindications for the use of yoga techniques in pregnancy.

If you are a certified yoga teacher (200-hour) this training qualifies for YACEP hours. You will receive 8 hours of continuing education. Carroll Ann Friedmann (ERYT-500) has taught Prenatal Yoga since 2007. She is a birth and postpartum doula in Charlottesville, VA. This course will be offered in person, but will shift to online if local conditions make this necessary. All students will have an online participation option for the course.
